Ingredients

3 pounds beef top sirloin steak, cubed1 tablespoon canola oil1/2 pound bulk Italian sausage1 large onion, chopped5 garlic cloves, minced2 cups water1 can (16 ounces) chili beans, undrained1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce1 can (14-1/2 ounces) beef broth1 package (12 ounces) pitted dried plums (prunes), chopped3 teaspoons chili powder2 teaspoons ground cumin1 teaspoon dried oregano1 teaspoon paprika3/4 teaspoon saltDash cayenne pepper

Preparation

In a Dutch oven, brown beef in oil in batches. Remove and keep warm. Add sausage and onion to the pan; cook and stir over medium heat until meat is no longer pink. Add garlic; cook 1 minute longer.

Return beef to the pan; stir in the remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 1-3/4 to 2 hours or until beef is tender.
