Ingredients
2 pounds small fresh beets, peeled and halved1/2 cup sugar1/4 cup packed brown sugar2 tablespoons cornstarch1/2 teaspoon salt1/4 cup orange juice1/4 cup cider vinegar2 tablespoons butter1-1/2 teaspoons whole cloves
Preparation
Place beets in a 3-qt. slow cooker. Mix sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch and salt. Stir in orange juice and vinegar. Pour over beets; dot with butter.
Place cloves on a double thickness of cheesecloth. Gather corners of cloth to enclose cloves; tie securely with string. Place bag in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low until beets are tender, 7-8 hours. Discard spice bag.
